Renesas

Architecture agnostic

Do you know, that IAR’s platform for embedded development is architecture agnostic?

A wide range of embedded development architectures

Renesas is a semiconductor company specializing in developing and manufacturing embedded systems, microcontrollers (MCUs), and microprocessors (MPUs).

Renesas offers a wide range of embedded development architectures, each designed to meet the specific needs of various applications in industries such as automotive, industrial, consumer electronics, and IoT.

Key components:

Microcontrollers (MCUs)

Renesas offers a wide range of microcontrollers based on different core architectures, including RX, RL78, RA, and RH850. These cores are designed for everything from ultra-low-power, resource-constrained applications to high-performance, real-time control systems.

  •  RX (32-bit): Known for high processing power and optimized for real-time control in industrial applications, delivering performance and efficiency where reliability is key.
  • RL78 (16-bit): Focused on ultra-low-power consumption, ideal for battery-powered IoT devices and automotive applications requiring energy efficiency and extended operational life.
  • RA (32-bit Arm Cortex-M): Combining the flexibility of Arm Cortex cores with advanced security and connectivity features, making it ideal for IoT and edge devices.
  • RH850 (32-bit): Offers cost-effective solutions with strong real-time performance for automotive and industrial control, ensuring high-speed operation and system stability.
  • RISC-V (32-bit): Energy-efficient and cost-optimized general-purpose MCU, ideal for low-power IoT, industrial, and embedded control applications with rich analog and connectivity features.
Microprocessors (MPUs)
  • RZ Series (Arm Cortex-A): Renesas offers microprocessors for complex embedded applications. These processors, based on the Arm Cortex-A series, are designed for advanced features like graphics, multimedia processing, and running sophisticated operating systems (Linux, Android).
  • RZ Family: Multi-core processors that support advanced computing power, graphics, and real-time performance, perfect for applications in automotive, industrial, and multimedia systems.

System on Chip (SoC)

Renesas frequently integrates its microcontroller and microprocessor cores into System on Chip (SoC) solutions, combining processing power, memory, peripherals, and connectivity in a single chip. These SoCs are tailored for specific market needs, such as automotive (ADAS, infotainment), industrial control, and consumer electronics, enabling reduced system size and power consumption.
